HeyMotion Privacy and File Processing
Exactly what HeyMotion processes in your browser, what is stored on servers when you sign in, and what stays local when you don't — so you know where your content lives.
#Overview
This article explains, plainly and accurately, how HeyMotion handles your content: what happens in your browser, what is stored on servers, and what stays only on your machine. The short version is that all rendering and export happen in your browser — nothing you type or upload is sent to a server to make a video. A few account features do store data on servers, and this page spells out exactly which.
#What Happens in Your Browser
The core of HeyMotion runs locally on your device:
- All rendering and export are in-browser. 100% in-browser (WebCodecs + a virtual-time clock). Nothing is uploaded to a server to export. When you click Export MP4, HeyMotion renders every frame on your machine using WebCodecs and downloads the finished file to your browser's Downloads folder. Nothing is uploaded to render.
- Images stay local. When you add a logo or a per-template image, Images are read in your browser and embedded directly in the graphic (data URL). The file is read in your browser and embedded directly into the graphic — it is not uploaded to a HeyMotion server for rendering.
- Previews are local. The looping preview in the center of the editor is generated on your machine, the same way the export is.
#What Is Stored on Servers
HeyMotion uses Supabase for accounts. When you interact with account features, some data is stored there:
- Your account and authentication. Signing up and signing in creates and manages your account through Supabase. Email confirmation is required for new signups.
- Your brand kit — when signed in. If you're signed in, your brand kit (colors, fonts, logo, background) syncs to the cloud so it follows you between devices.
- Your saved presets — when signed in. Presets you save (a named snapshot of a template plus its content) are stored on your account.
Because your brand kit and presets can include an uploaded logo image or per-template images embedded as data, those images are stored as part of that brand/preset data when you save it while signed in.
Access to your brand and presets is restricted to your own account. You reach these features by signing in; using the studio and exporting do not require an account.
#What Stays Local When You're Signed Out
If you use HeyMotion without signing in, your work is not sent to a server:
- Your brand kit is saved in your browser's localStorage and stays on that device.
- Any images you add are embedded locally in the graphic.
- Your exports download straight to your Downloads folder.
Signing in is what turns on cloud sync; staying signed out keeps everything on your machine.
#Fonts
The typefaces used across HeyMotion are loaded from Google Fonts. When the app or a graphic uses a font, your browser fetches it from Google Fonts, which is standard for web-hosted fonts.
